Business plans and business models

 Business Plan -

A business plan is what you'll ultimately use to show people what your business is already and what it could be capable of and what you have in store for the business through thorough planning of things like sales, resources, staff and management, marketing and finances, all accompanied by an executive summary as well as an overview of your business and where it lies in the market. This plan will be constantly changing and provides the main structure of your organisation.

Business Model -

A business model is the foundation which the business plan lies on and explains in detail how the company makes its profit while providing a valued service to its customers. It details the companies professional and customer relationships, its partners and activities, the key resources the company uses as well as the overall cost and revenue structures.

Self portrait

Evaluation -

Making this project I had lots of fun as it allowed me to get creative while still focusing on introducing me as a person. I have always preferred a more improvised approach to working as I feel it gives a more natural result, however the basic outline of the style and direction of the video was decided through note taking different ideas and aesthetics. The production of the video went swimmingly in terms of making what I could with the space and equipment made available to me, as well as dealing with a cold which left me monotonous, and editing the video wasn't much of a problem at all aside from a few audio balancing hiccups.

If I could change it I would after thinking about newer scene ideas as well as other peoples self portraits including elements I hadn't thought of which I could have incorporated myself. This being said I am still proud of the work I have created in such a short timespan to meet the deadline while also creating a high enough quality video to showcase my life. One major change I would make however would be exploring other aspects of my life other than what is presented in the video.

I definitely enjoyed making this video like all the videos I shoot, and it was nice to break away from the norm of shooting a fictional story-led video and to try something more personal and unique to me. The final product itself is quite funny to watch back and I was happy with it after multiple edits and versions were made into the final result, with the comedy and music segments split apart to keep it tidy but also showcase two different styles of editing and shooting.

Head shots and professional images research

Professional portfolios and agencies will use head shots to showcase a persons looks and personality over a larger portrait photo. Usually done in an 8x10 format, a head shot has to show potential employers everything about a persons looks and personality, meaning they need to show good expressionism in the picture. A head shot should also be as natural as possible so that the casting director and anyone else gets a clear image of the person they're hiring and expect them to turn up looking the same for any interviews or casting calls. A common way people do head shots is by looking off-center, and will take multiple pictures to show off their range of looks.

some examples of head shots (Photographer Steve Lawton):

As part of my induction I had to take my own head shot and retouch it, and this is the final result:

Creating a personal portfolio

 Professional portfolios:

1: Mikka Leskinen (Director and editor) - This portfolio is very professional in its layout and presentation, with the credits all in icon blocks which can be expanded for more detail, and filter options for the type of production you want examples of. Leskinen's portfolio also shows off a range of productions, which shows any potential employers the scope of his talent, as well as including a show reel to show off his directing style.

2: Tara Pixley (Photojournalist) - Pixley's portfolio is split into 3 categories which show off her reporting, portrait work and dance photos respectively. This shows off  her range as a photographer while also allowing potential employers to find examples of the specific task they want to hire her for. The actual layout in each section is boxed neatly so navigation is made simple, and her photographic range is also shown well.

3: Alex Winn (Photographer) - This portfolio is simple but effective, as it shows a wide range of shots Winn can do in one sliding gallery and also gives information showing off his knowledge of the casting side of the professional industry. The webpage also includes reviews from actors and a host of information regarding headshot and portrait photoshoots.
